Disability Employment - Key organisations
Disability Employment Australia - The peak industry body for Australia's Disability Employment Services (DES). DES are Federal Government funded services, delivered via DES Providers, to assist jobseekers with disability, injury or a health condition to find and keep a job. Disability Employment Australia provides support and resources to the disability employment sector and hosts a list of DES providers by State.
Disability Employment SA - The peak industry body for DES providers in South Australia. Provides support and assistance for people wanting to work, plus ongoing advice and support for employers.
Australian Network on Disability (AND) - A not for profit organisation providing assistance to organisations develop the behaviours, attitudes, systems and knowledge to successfully engage with people with disability as employees, customers and stakeholders. Services that AND offer include tools, training, a Charter for the Employment of People with Disability, and an information line.
Workfocus Australia - Delivers two services on behalf of the Australian Government - JobAccess and the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator (NDRC). JobAccess provides a phone and online advice service and facilitates access to the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF). The NDRC provides support services nationally to employers with over 100 employees to recruit and employ jobseekers with a disability.
Disability WORKS Australia (DWA) - Manages the referral of people with disabilities for employment in large organisations throughout South Australia. DWA has established and manages a Disability Employment Register for eligible people with disabilities who are seeking employment in the South Australian public sector.
People With Disability Australia (PWDA) - A not for profit national disability rights and advocacy organisation. Membership is made up of people with disability, other individuals and organisations committed to the disability rights movement. Provides information, advocacy, representation, research and training. Other peak bodies funded across Australia to represent people with disability include:
- Children with Disability Australia - represents children and young people (aged 0-25) with disability.
- First Peoples Disability Network Australia - a national organisation of and for Australia’s First Peoples with disability, their families and communities.
- National Ethnic Disability Alliance - represents the rights and interests of people from non-English speaking background (NESB) with disability, their families and carers.
- Women with Disability Australia - represents more than 2 million disabled women and girls in Australia.
National Disability Services (NDS) - Australia's peak body for non-government disability service organisations. 990 NDS members operate several thousand services for Australians with all types of disability. Members range in size from small support groups to large multi-service organisations. NDS promotes quality service provision and life opportunities for Australians with disability by influencing governments at all levels and providing members with information and advice, networking opportunities and business support.
