Workers' compensation and older workers
A big issue for older workers is workers' compensation.
In all states, income maintenance to injured workers cuts out at or near retirement age and they are moved to other welfare payments. For people still working after retirement age, the insurance offered by WorkCover differs by state.
In South Australia, WorkCover legislation changed on 1 July 2008 and workers of retirement age may be covered for a limited period, subject to certain conditions.
More information on workers compensation for older workers in South Australia can be found at www.workcover.com (see Chapter 10 of the Injury and Case Management Manual).
