Taking Disciplinary Action


Workers should always be given the opportunity to change their behaviour, but more serious cases may require discipline. Disciplinary action may be considered when:

  • the complaint is about sexual or physical assault¬†
  • the complaint is confirmed by witnesses
  • the person being complained about has been warned or disciplined before for similar behaviour.

Discipline may involve:

  • counselling
  • training
  • warnings
  • transfer, suspension or probation
  • dismissal

Staff may also be required to apologise.

Disciplinary action needs to be fair and take all the circumstances into account.
