Interstate laws

By 1996, all Australian states and territories had equal opportunity or anti-discrimination legislation.  Australians are protected by both Commonwealth and their local state or territory laws.

Laws in other states all cover discrimination in places of public life. They do not apply to people's private lives.

However, the laws differ from state to state, on the types of discrimination which are unlawful.
